The Lemon Festival (or lemons) is a unique event in the world that attracts more than 200,000 visitors from around the world each year. The city lights up and comes alive with the parade of floats, the citrus display (daytime) and the Gardens of Lights (evening). It is usually held between the end of February and the beginning of March.
The idea to organize it came from the hoteliers of Menton, who in 1895 had the idea to propose to the town hall to organize a parade in order to liven up the city in winter. This celebration was initiated the following year and was a resounding success from the start, becoming known around the world.
Indeed during this period various kings and notables of all countries used to come to spend the winter months on the Côte d'Azur; This is why the Lemon Festival became famous in the international jet set.
