Between Capo Mortola and Cap-Martin, Menton has been inhabited since the Paleolithic age as evidenced by the excavations at the Balzi Rossi caves. The Via Julia Augusta which connected Ventimiglia to Nice and the latter in Rome crossed the city but the history of Menton is very particular. Until 1848 it remains under the dominion and is part of the Principality of Monaco as well as the neighboring Roquebrune. Its history is a succession of flag changes including a military occupation from 1940 to 1943 by Italy. Today the pearl of the Côte d'Azur, thanks to its mild climate and its gardens is a very well known and appreciated tourist destination.
Today the headquarters of the Science Po University and the nursing school bring further development to the city and make it an ideal rental investment with student leases
